While some fancy moves like Summoning take up many Action Points, simple moves like using a weapon typically only take a single Action Point.

You get a number of Action Points, AP, equal to your level every turn in encounters.

Action Points are equivalent to skill in movement and concentration. For example, to move your speed, or to swing a weapon typically requires 1AP, but to cast a spell that is complicated, even a simple Summoning requires 5AP.
